Jay Stone is a Licensed Professional Counselor as recognized by the Alabama Board of Examiners in Counseling, and National Certified Counselor as recognized by the National Board for Certified Counselors. A native of Mobile where he attended St. Paul’s Episcopal School, Jay has returned to Mobile from Birmingham, to join The Centre. He holds a Master of Arts Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from The University of Alabama-Birmingham. Jay has worked in private practice, inpatient and outpatient substance abuse treatment programs, and mental health hospitals. His areas of focus are substance abuse/addictions, adolescent/behavioral issues, anxiety, depression, ADHD, self-harm behaviors, suicidal ideation, anger management, self-esteem issues, and co-dependency. Jay enjoys working with adolescents and adults and utilizes a Cognitive Behavioral Therapy modality, incorporating aspects of mindfulness, motivational interviewing and solution focused approaches. His belief is that by collaborating with his clients he can assist them in processing the underlying causes of their life disturbances and adopt healthier and more beneficial coping skills. His goal is to provide a safe and comfortable environment for his clients to explore their challenges and ultimately help them to live healthier and happier lives. Jay is a member of the American Counseling Association and the American Mental Health Counselors Association.
